Symptoms travel downstream
A failure near the beginning of a system often appears as pain somewhere else. Poor lead qualification becomes a sales complaint. Weak intake becomes a traffic complaint. Undefined ownership becomes a technology complaint.
When the visible symptom receives the budget, the upstream cause remains and the new investment inherits the same failure.
Dependency order protects the investment
Demand must be captured. Captured demand must move through a reliable process. Automation requires a process clear enough to describe. Each layer depends on conditions established before it.
This is why sequence is not project management etiquette. It is economic protection. The correct order prevents one investment from being neutralized by a constraint it was never designed to remove.
Use one question to restore order
Ask what would break first if demand doubled tomorrow. Then ask what must already be true for that failure not to occur. The answers reveal the dependency chain.
Work backward until the first unsupported condition becomes visible. That is usually where the next dollar and the next operating decision belong.
